American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) approved the project entitled “Performance analysis of solar operated milk refrigerator using hybrid nanomaterials” in the amount of $5000 under the ASHRAE Undergraduate Program Equipment Grant to Mr. Shailendra Kasera, Asst Prof, Department of Mechanical Engineering, PCE.
The objectives of this project are to use the solar DC power to run the milk refrigerator and to calculate the performance parameters of solar DC operated milk refrigerator using hybrid nanomaterial’s and R290 base fluid.
The milk preservation is a fast growing business in developing countries. High-energy cost and environmental concerns are two major issues in using the conventional energy sources. Besides, all the villages are not connected to the grid that’s why refrigeration facility is not available. Milk should be kept at a lower temperature to prevent bacteria reproduction and follow the permissible limit of bacteria content. At present, almost all dairy operations are performed using grid supply with the diesel generator as backup. If a village is not connected to the grid, then, it is difficult to preserve the milk.
The problem of electricity and diesel generator sets can be solved by refrigeration system for cooling the milk based on renewable energy. DC compressor compatible with R290 will be utilized for this project. R290 (Propane) is natural refrigerant. It has zero ODP & 3 GWP100 and excellent thermodynamic properties. The heat transfer intensification will be done using combination of Hybrid Nano material.
Message from HOD
Education is inward journey that gives a clear mind to face the word outside. Engineering graduates are to be trained to fit into the present-day industry’s need, as technologies progresses day by day and there is intense competition among young engineers. To achieve professional competence, engineers should be fully equipped with all basic principles of latest technology. To dream, to think and to achieve guided by this motive Mechanical Engineering Department of PCE is striving to pace ahead and touch the communication of development. Our extracurricular and supporting academic activities are also significant. These activities provide exposure to our students and faculty members in the areas of latest developments. We organize Seminars, national and international conferences, workshops, and symposia in collaboration with well reputed organization. We also organize special lectures in various areas by invited speakers from IITs, foreign universities, and expert from industries. There are no barriers between the students, faculty and department administration which makes us as united community.

INNOVATIONS BY THE FACULTY IN TEACHING AND LEARNING
- Faculty using with physical models and 3D models at the time of teaching. Faculty uses flipped class room concept for better teaching learning processes.
- Faculty using posters at the time of teaching.
- Faculty members are using virtual lab for demonstration of various experiments.
- Faculty members are using Google class room for conducting quiz’s/Tests and sharing of studying material.
- Our department have a large collection of video lectures from experts.
- Faculty members are showing NPTEL videos for better explanation of concepts.
- Faculty members are explaining the concepts using PPT and animations.
- Faculties are using role playing and scenario analysis.
- The faculties are using multimedia elements such as LCD projectors in the classroom. It will help the faculties to represent the content in a more meaningful way using different media elements.
ICT (Information Communication Technology):
- Exclusive seminar halls are available to have interactive sessions for difficult subjects.
- NPTEL video lectures are available in the E-library where the students can access learning materials at any time.
- Online resources such as Google classroom, MOOC, and spoken tutorial etc. are utilized for conducting quiz and online test.
- Web based learning with access to online journals and E-books.
- The learning materials for every course are available in the content server of the college which can be accessed by the students through the intranet facilities available during the college hours.
- WhatsApp based interaction among students and faculty for effective and instant information and discussion process.
- Twitter videos are shown to the students for better understanding of the concepts.
- Faculty members share the PPT on google classroom which are being utilized by the students
Model Based Teaching:
- Faculty members use models wherever required to explain the content.
- Models based teaching is used for subjects including machine design, theory of machine and machines drawing.
Advanced Tools:
- Students are taught advance technologies like 3D Printing, CNC and modelling and simulation software including ANSYS, MatLab for design and analysis of projects.
- Virtual Lab: - Faculty members uses virtual lab for demonstration of various experiments.
- More open and participate actively.
Innovative Methods of Teaching Adopted:
- Role playing - Students are asked to complete the task by role playing by interacting with their peers and try to complete the task assigned to them in their specific role.
- Brain storming -A group of students are given a single problem and asked spontaneously for rapidity of ideas to increase spontaneity of interactions. Creative and effective thoughts begin to evolve from this process
- Discussion forum - Discussions sessions are held for enhancing student motivation, fostering intellectual agility, and encouraging democratic habits. These create opportunities for students to practice and sharpen a number of skills, including the ability to articulate and defend positions, consider different points of view, and enlist and evaluate evidence.
Innovative Practices:
- Additional project and seminar are included in each semester beyond the syllabus and supervisors are identified based on their area of specialization.
- Students are motivated to solve the real time problems.
- Student innovations are updated and shared on the official website.
Some Special Features:
- Special classes are conducted for the weak students exclusively under the direct supervision of the mentors.
- Similarly, GATE classes are conducted for bright students.
- The individual faculty members discussed about the concepts, previous year question papers.
Seminars and expert Lectures:
- Seminars and workshops are conducted which improves their communication and learning skills.
- Expert lectures are conducted by inviting eminent persons from industry and academics
- Alumni are invited for technical talk and interact with the students.
- Industrial experts give special lectures and seminars on current topic as a part of MoUs with Industries.
